Finance Minister

His Excellency Lyonpo Lekey Dorji

His Excellency Lyonpo Lekey Dorji assumed the charge of the Ministry of Finance upon conferment of Dakyen by His Majesty The King on January 28, 2024.

He possesses extensive experiences as a civil servant, corporate executive, private sector entrepreneur and startup investor. He also has good international development expertise having worked as consultant to the World Bank, ADB, JICA, Ramboll, Padeco, and Maxwell Stamp. He is a seasoned public figure having served as a Member of Parliament and as the Minister of the erstwhile Ministry of Economic Affairs during the second elected Governmen

Academically outstanding, Mr. Dorji holds a BSc. in electrical engineering and MSc. in operational telecommunications degrees as a Fulbright and International Telecommunication Union fellow from universities in US and UK respectively.

The Sixth Finance Minister

Lyonpo Namgay Tshering became Bhutan’s third democratically elected Finance Minister on 7th November 2018. Before entering politics, he served in the Ministry of Health and coordinated projects with the World Bank and Global Fund.

Lyonpo Wangdi Norbu served as Finance Minister from 2003 to 2007 and was elected again in 2008. He also worked as Finance Secretary and Auditor General and represented Bartsam-Shongphu in Trashigang.

He served as the Minister from 1988 to 1998. He also served as the Deputy Minister of Finance from 1983 to 1988.

Lyonpo Namgay Dorji became Bhutan’s second democratically elected Finance Minister on 27th July 2013. He represented the People’s Democratic Party from Draagteng-Langthil and is from Ngada, Trongsa.

During the 76th National Assembly, His Majesty the King devolved executive powers to an elected Council of Ministers. Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba was elected Finance Minister in August 1998 and served until July 2003 after briefly being deputy minister.
