7th Joint Group of Customs Meeting between Bhutan and Bangladesh
The 7th Joint Group of Customs Meeting (JGCM) between Department of Revenue and customs, Royal Government of Bhutan and National Board of Revenue, Government of Bangladesh was held in Paro on 27th and 28th May 2024. The Bhutanese delegation was led by Mr. Sonam Jamtsho, Director General, Department of Revenue and Customs (DRC), Ministry of Finance and the Bangladeshi Delegation was led by Dr. Nahida Faridy, Commissioner, Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Rangpur.
The JGoC meeting is held annually to address issues pertaining to cross border trade. The meeting also involves discussion on measures to foster and strengthen ties to enhanced cooperation and collaboration between the customs administrations. It also serves as a platform to streamline customs procedures, to improve border management, and to share best practices to facilitate legitimate trade. The two days meeting concluded successfully with the assurance from both the parties to view trade related issues positively for the future growth of the countries.

Handing over of the first tranche of the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Cheque of Nu.2.5 billion
- The ESP of Nu.15 billion was officially launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on May 18, 2024.
- The ESP is supported by the Government of India and will address the economic challenges faced by the country in the aftermath of the pandemic. The ESP will revive key economic sectors, create jobs, and improve the overall economic health including liquidity and international reserves.
- His Excellency Shri Sudhakar Dalela, Ambassador of India to Bhutan handed over a cheque of Nu.2.5 billion as the first tranche of the ESP to His Excellency Lyonpo Lekey Dorji, Finance Minister on May 22, 2024 at Tashichhodzong.
- On behalf of the Royal Government of Bhutan, Hon’ble Finance Minister expressed his gratitude for the continued support of the Government and People of India for Bhutan’s socio-economic development.
